Cynthia A. Carway is a professional storyteller and communications strategist who helps clients around the country and across the globe shape and deliver their unique narratives to their most important audiences.
A veteran of the New York City public relations industry, Cynthia founded Carway Communications, Inc. as a boutique public relations/public policy agency in 1987. Her work centers on the three pillars of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) – social, environmental and economic equity. She has conceived and implemented award-winning strategic communications programs that advance knowledge, ideas and national discussion about the environment, climate and sustainability. Corporate purpose and social responsibility. STEM education and workforce development. Diversity, equity and inclusion. Women’s and global public health issues. These campaigns have influenced the way people think about issues, broadened and diversified the nation’s innovation talent pool, helped people get correct diagnoses, and equipped young people with the skills and habits of mind they need to succeed.
A former newspaper reporter, her journalism has appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Houston Chronicle, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, The Raleigh News and Observer, The Huffington Post and Industry Week, among others.
Cynthia is a native New Yorker who currently or formerly has served as a board member of Kitchen Garden Laboratory, Artists’ Rights Coalition, Global Orphan Assistance Fund, the Irish-American Writers Festival, and the Washington, D.C.-based National Children’s Choir.
A seasoned communications professional and management consultant, Stephanie Tonnesen Hornback is driven by a passion for sustainability – economic, social and environmental, as well as corporate responsibility and storytelling. She understands the key to long-term sustainability lies in authenticity, collaboration and dedication to balancing people, planet and prosperity goals. A big sky thinker who is just as comfortable in the weeds, Stephanie has created award-winning programs and initiatives for Covestro LLC, Bayer Corporation, United Nations Environment Programme, Pearle Vision, American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association and ASSET Inc., among others.
Stephanie jumpstarted her career as a journalist in New York City at New York Newsday and the Queens Courier. Other career highlights include serving as a trainer for astronaut Dr. Mae C. Jemison’s international science camp The Earth We Share™ and earning the designation Climate Reality Leader after training with Vice President Al Gore at his Climate Reality Project’s online global training summit.
Born and raised in New York City, Stephanie holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature and journalism from City University of New York, Queens College. She also is a graduate of the University of Vermont’s Grossman School of Business Leading Sustainable Innovation program and Rutgers University’s Institute for Ethical Leadership’s CSR program.
Stephanie is vice president of the board of directors of the Passaic County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals where she spearheaded the creation of the first pet food pantry for county residents. For her volunteer work educating the community about upcycling, she has been recognized with a “Green Citizen” Award by the Hawthorne, NJ, Environment Commission.
Stephanie and her husband, Andrew, reside in Northern New Jersey with their rescued Maltese, Mr. Butters.
